Yadagiri Gutta

Lakshmi Narasimha Temple,Yadagiri Gutta

Almost all the Hindu temples have dedicated worshipping the great divine and powerful deity i.e. Man-Lion incarnation or Vishnu avatar in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Most prominent of such holy shrine is the Lakshmi Narasimha swamy, a popular temple of Yadagiri Gutta is situated at an altitude of 300 feet on a hill in Nalgonda district.

At the top of the hill there is a water body called kund which is a wonderful sacred place to visit. The view from the top of the hill is magnificent and indeed spectacular leaving you almost floating in a sacred place. This is a cave temple which is only 70kms from Hyderabad and has many unique features to it. One among is the conventional structure of the temple which is visible from the outside has been superimposed upon it. Secondly, it has five forms of Narasimha which is very uncommon too. Finally, the principal shrine, Lakshmi Narasimha swamy is famed for spiritual healing and incurable diseases. So all these aspects have made it famous and one of the most popular ancient sacred pilgrimages for Hindus in the A.P. State. The temple also attracted a huge number of pilgrims and outsiders i.e. from other states of the country too. It is busy throughout the year with different events like annual brahmotsavam (usually held in the month of March), which includes Yedurkolu, Celestial Wedding and Divya Vimana Rathothsavam.

In ancient days, Sri Yada Maharshi, son of the sage Sri Rishyashrunga, with the blessings of Anjaneya had performed great penance for Lord Narasimha Swamy inside a cave on this hill. He was rewarded with the god’s blessings and then Lord Narasimha existed in five different forms known as Jwala, Yogananda, Lakshminarasimha, Gandabherunda and Ugra. Hence worshipped later as “Pancha Narasimha Kshetram”. The hurdles through evil spirits and obstacles faced by the devotees are being cured by the God and Goddess through herbal medicines likes Fruits, flowers and Tulasi Teertham who worship this deity with the great devotion.

The Lord first appeared as Jwala Narasimha (As a Flame or Fire). As it was so scary and when Yada Maharshi was unable to face the intensity of this apparition, he appeared in a peaceful form as Yoga Narasimha (Lord in a Yogic Padmasana Posture) which is both a granter of spiritual healer and incurable diseases. Hanuman is carved beside Yoga Narasimha too and also regarded as the servant of Vishnu, he deserves a place.

As the sage is still not satisfied Lord appearing alone, Narasimha appeared along with Lakshmi, the Goddess of fortune on his lap’, known as Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy. It seems to be the largest in size and the last carved image overlaid with decorations in temples. His hand is raised in the Abhaya Dana Mudra, the granting of fearlessness where it has been given a golden glove densely studded with diamonds. As the sage couldn’t endure these three forms which are so fiery, it is said that they are worshipped inside the dark cave. Actually the cave forms a low arch almost grazing your head as you enter and believed to be the hand of the lord granting you the initiation by touching your head. Sages believe that the touching of the crown of the head by guru’s palm to be the most powerful form of initiation. The initiation would not have been a very gentle process, highly effective as the entire hill itself is supposed to be the volatile deity of Ugra Narasimha, the Fierce Man-Lion. Gandabherunda (Garuda Pakshi or the bird eagle) is the fifth form of the Lord who is invisible, is said to have been found sculpted in rock underneath the Anjaneya, known as ‘Kshetrapalaka’ and all these forms are known as “Swayambhu”.

It is said that the sage had been granted his wish that the place where the Lord appeared will be known by his name as Yadagiri (‘Giri’ means Hill in Sanskrit and ‘Gutta’ means a hillock in Telugu). As the Lord Narasimha was believed to have been worshipped by Sages, the region of Yadagiri Gutta has been reputed to be a “Rushi Aradhana Kshetram”. As Lord Vishnu brought all Vedas and believed to be kept on this sacred place, Yadagiri Gutta is renowned as “Vedagiri”.

AP mangoes

Andhra Pradesh is India's second largest producer of mangoes and it has the highest productivity of 12 tones per hectare. While Andhra Pradesh produces 3.07 million tones of mango, U.P., Bihar and Karnataka produce 2.39, 1.79 and 0.92 million tones, respectively. India ranks first among world’s mango producing countries accounting for 52.63 per cent of the total world’s mango production of 19 million tones.

Specialty of Indian mangoes...

1. World's largest mango producer.

2. 40% of world mangoes are produced in India.

3. Very little is exported, because of domestic consumption needs.

4. Mangoes are regularly exported to Gulf.

5. There are other famous varieties like Alfonso cultivated in other States like Maharashtra and UP.

Most common varieties of AP are:

Bangalora(Totapuri) : It is a commercial variety of south India. The fruit size is medium to large, its shape is oblong with necked base and color is golden yellow. Fruit quality is poor. Keeping quality is very good. It is widely used for processing. It is a mid season variety.

Banganapalli(Benishan): It is a commercial variety of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu and also known as Chapta, Safeda, Benishan and Chaptai. Fruit is large in size and obliquely oval in shape. The color of the fruit is golden yellow. Fruit quality and keeping quality are good. It is a mid season variety and is good for canning.

Suvarnarekha : This is a commercial variety of Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh. Other synonyms of this variety are Sundari, Lal Sundari. Fruit is medium in size and ovate oblong in shape. Color of the fruit is light cadmium with a blush of jasper red. Fruit quality is medium and keeping quality is good. It is an early variety.

Despite an expected low production of mangoes this year, the total exports of mangos from Andhra Pradesh is likely to see a 100 per cent jump over last year. Unlike last year, due to adoption of better pest management techniques and awareness of qualitative produce, the mango growers from the state are hoping for better price realization from other countries during this season.

"Last year, the total production of mangoes was about 32 lakh tonnes with instances of three times of flowering during the season. This led to good production but this year the output is expected to fall by about one-third over last year’s production," according to sources. "But low volume in production will not reflect on the exports," said APEDA officials. However, it is too early to predict on exports. The production is based on the rate of flowering and climatic conditions during harvest period, they said. The reasons attributed for the fall is believed to be poor remunerative prices fetched during last season. Last year, the prices of Banganapalli variety fetched about Rs 15 per kilo at the farm gates, but the poor farmer realized less than Rs 10 per kilo, in between eaten away by the middlemen. This has led to low investment by the growers despite bumper crop last season, said sources. Added to this, the change in weather conditions during the fruit set period has caused ‘neglect’ towards orchards. "Bad weather conditions, low prices fetched last year has led to the neglect of mango gardens which are the reasons for less production this season," said APEDA officials

What Will I Be Paid For Army Jobs in Iraq and Afghanistan?

Making the choice to represent your country by choosing army jobs that involve potential fighting is a selfless and honorable choice, and one that is adequately remunerated. There are several factors that impact the amount of pay you receive, for example the type of job you sign up for. This amount will remain standard for your army job no matter where you are located, but there are costs and allowances for overseas work over and above your regular salary that can make these types of dangerous army jobs more worthwhile. Therefore, your location is a factor that can greatly affect your income received for army jobs carried out.

Opting to serve in army jobs across borders in Iraq or Afghanistan involves a term of payment called "Hostile Fire and Imminent Danger Pay." As the areas of Iraq and Afghanistan in which you are stationed are dangerous locations of unrest, it is obvious that "danger pay" for these particular stationed army jobs should be made available. These "danger pay" areas include locations where civil war is taking place, where there is imminent danger of bomb explosions, mine explosions, gunfire and related hostile activities. At this point in time, Iraq and Afghanistan definitely fit the profile for the above mentioned attributes.

Working on army jobs out of the US entitles recruits to an allowance called Per Dium which is paid over and above their regular salary. It allows them to create some kind of parallel between the cost of living at home, and the cost of living overseas and is a little extra money to go towards all out of pocket expenses. Per Dium is calculated according to many variable factors, and differs according to location and army job duty.

Recruits living and performing duty in army jobs overseas can also be entitled to a housing allowance, referred to as an "Overseas Housing Allowance." Should a recruit have to pay for their own accommodation, they will be reimbursed provided their circumstances fit in with the regulations relating to this benefit.

A "Family Separation Allowance" may also be collected when serving army jobs in Iraq or Afghanistan over and above any Per Diem and housing allowances.

In some cases it will be required that a recruit serve extra time in their army jobs overseas other than that stipulated in which case they will be offered a series of options for extra pay over an above what they are earning already.

Military recruits are trained for combat, and must be prepared for it at all times no matter what army jobs they are involved in. When choosing to serve in Iraq or Afghanistan, this possibility can become an extremely vivid reality.
